Child counselling basically focuses on the issues faced by children, teens,
and adolescents. Child counselling offers a safe space to discuss and work
through anything that seems to be problematic for younger ones. The role of
a counsellor in the child counselling is to understand the child as an
individual and find the problems that internally and externally affecting.
These include temperament, social maturity, intelligence/ cognitive
functioning, emotional and behavioural problems, family circumstances, peer
influence, social media influence etc.
Child counselling helps them deal with adjustment issues, social anxiety and
in a way prevent these issues to grow bigger and cause problems in
adulthood. Child counsellors use psychological tests as well to determine
the possible reasons for unusual behaviours or to detect any symptoms of an
underlying mental illness. It does not only involve the child but also the
primary caregivers and family members, for a more effective treatment plan.
